Charles Bonvin

THE HISTORY

Founded in 1858 by Carolus Bonvin, Charles Bonvin 1858 holds the prestigious title of the oldest wine house in the Valais region. For over 160 years, the estate has been a pioneer in Swiss viticulture, playing a fundamental role in establishing the international reputation of AOC Valais wines. Since 2009, the winery has been part of the Rouvinez family estates, who have worked to preserve this historical heritage while integrating modern, sustainable practices. Named "Swiss Winery of the Year" in 2014, the house remains a benchmark for quality, blending deep-rooted tradition with a forward-looking vision.

THE TERROIR

The soul of Bonvin wines lies in the dramatic, sun-drenched terraced vineyards overlooking Sion. Spanning 23.5 hectares, the estate's primary domaines—such as Brûlefer and Clos du Château—sit on steep, south-facing slopes composed of dry calcareous schist and gravelly limestone. This unique geological composition, combined with the dry microclimate of the Rhône Valley, imparts a distinctive mineral tension and aromatic complexity to the wines. From indigenous rarities like Petite Arvine, Amigne, and Cornalin to world-renowned varietals like Syrah, the terroir demands a "fighting spirit" from the vines, resulting in wines of exceptional character and elegance.
