Bodegas Muga

Bodegas Muga

THE HISTORY

Founded in 1932 by Isaac Muga and Aurora Caño, Bodegas Muga is a standard-bearer for tradition in the heart of Rioja Alta. Located in the historic Station Quarter (Barrio de la Estación) of Haro, the winery has been steered by the Muga family for three generations. Their legacy is built on a unique marriage of ancient techniques and forward-thinking vision. Muga is famously one of the few wineries in Spain to maintain its own cooperage, hand-crafting every barrel and vat from oak personally selected by the family in the forests of France and North America.

THE TERROIR

The character of Muga’s wines is forged in the exceptional soils of the Oja and Tirón river valleys. Here, the vineyards benefit from a unique Mediterranean, Atlantic, and Continental climatic intersection, protected by the Sierra de Cantabria mountains. The vines thrive in a diverse geological tapestry of clay-calcareous, alluvial, and ferrous-clay soils. From the elegant, age-worthy Prado Enea Gran Reserva to the vibrant Flor de Muga, each wine captures the essence of Haro’s landscape—where cold north winds and sun-drenched summers force the grapes to achieve a perfect balance of acidity and concentrated fruit.
